Women’s equal right to play different sports is a topic that has been in the spotlight for decades but there is still a need to bring it up because there are still menly sports and girly sports. In order to lose the term “men’s sports” we need to start accepting that all sports can be done by both genders and we have to change the whole society’s mindset. It has been hard to find women athletes that could make a difference and be accepted also by the sexist individes in our society. A change can only be made if influential women athletes start proving sexists wrong and that is exactly what Alex Morgan has been doing.
Alex Morgan was one of the players who started fighting against gender income inequality after the great World Cup victory for American Women’s National Team in 2015. She brought up that even though they play the same game as their male counterparts and are way more successful than men’s national team, they still do not receive the same pay, travel accommodations or even playing conditions. Now the women’s national team has a lawsuit and is fighting for equal pay.
Alex Morgan is also inspiring young girls and women to believe in themselves and start doing what they really want to do and not think about whether it is a girly thing to do or not. She is an author of the inspiring book series “ The Kicks” which is extremely popular among young girls. She is also the spokesperson for campaign #LikeAGirl which encourages women and girls to break stereotypes on and off the field. She has proven that everything a boy can do, a girl can do even better.
One of the main effects of Alex Morgan is that she is extremely attractive and that combined with amazing football skills is what catches every men’s attention. She is the one female athlete that even men know and that is a big step toward breaking the stereotypes of girls not being able to play and train as hard as boys do. She is spreading awareness about women’s sports and women’s rights and equality which is already making a change.

She has started a movement that requires women to have equal pay, travel accommodations and playing conditions. She is also inspiring young girls and other females to do what they want regardless of stereotypes. Furthermore she is also changing men’s opinions regarding women and women’s sports. All that has changed women’s football around the globe and is one of the main reasons why women’s football has become popular and Women’s World Cup’s viewership in 2019 was 1.12 billion.
